Arsenal know they will need to raise funds through player sales after last summer's heavy spending if they want to be active in the transfer market this year
Arsenal's reported interest in Tino Livramento has raised fresh questions over the future of Ben White, with the defender already slipping down Mikel Arteta's pecking order. White, who has two years remaining on his contract, has fallen behind Jurrien Timber and has been limited to just five Premier League starts this season.
Injuries have also disrupted his campaign, restricting him to 19 appearances across all competitions. Reports this week claim Arsenal are 'mulling over' a potential summer bid for Newcastle United full-back Livramento.
There have been no signs of contract talks at St James' Park and the 21‑year‑old could reportedly be attainable for around £60 million. While Newcastle are keen to keep him, they recognise his value may drop if no new deal is agreed.
Arsenal are not alone in their interest, with Manchester City also said to be monitoring the situation. The Gunners' pursuit does, however, raise questions about how they would fund such a move.

After heavy spending last summer in their title push, Arsenal are expected to sell at least one first‑team player. The Telegraph notes that the club's inability to consistently generate significant income from player sales has been a long‑standing issue.
Their record sale remains Alex Oxlade‑Chamberlain's £35m move to Liverpool nine years ago.
Ahead of the summer, both Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus are said to be viewed as potential departures to raise funds.
Martinelli, who has been a reliable performer for Arteta in recent seasons, has been used from the bench this campaign, with Leandro Trossard preferred as the first‑choice option on the left.
The Brazil star has one year left on his contract after arriving at the Emirates in 2019.
As for Jesus, he made his comeback in December after suffering a serious cruciate ligament injury last year, but his involvement has been limited.
He has started only two league games since returning and hasn't played in Arsenal's last three matches, remaining on the bench against Tottenham, Chelsea and Brighton.
The north Londoners' Premier League title push continues this weekend when they host Everton on Saturday at 5:30pm.
