Arsenal latest: Gunners 'open to striker sale' as Gabriel Jesus gives update on his future

Arsenal's summer recruitment plans are starting to take shape following updates on two first team transfer situations

For Arsenal fans, attention is very much centred on the here and now. The Gunners are edging closer to securing their first Premier League crown in more than 20 years and are looking strong in both the Champions League and the FA Cup too.

Although there have been a few recent wobbles - including a 2-0 defeat to title rivals Manchester City in last month's Carabao Cup final - the overall trajectory under Mikel Arteta remains very promising. But while the main focus will be on the games ahead, attention will inevitably begin turning toward the upcoming transfer window.

Arsenal's spending last summer went beyond the £250million mark, with Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke all coming in to bolster the squad. A similarly heavy investment seems less likely this time, although it cannot be completely ruled out as the club aims to solidify its place at the top of both English and European football.

If significant funds are committed again, departures will almost certainly be necessary. With that in mind, here are the latest Arsenal-related headlines.

Jesus transfer update

Gabriel Jesus has revealed he would one day welcome a return to his former side Palmeiras. With just over a year remaining on his Arsenal deal, the Brazilian forward faces an uncertain future.

After losing his spot as the team's No. 1 striker to Gyokeres, Jesus may be on his way out this summer - particularly if Arsenal want to avoid the possibility of him leaving on a free transfer in 2027.

In the past, Jesus indicated he was open to extending his stay at Arsenal but his recent remarks hint that a move back to Brazil at the end of the season could be on the cards. "I manage to follow [Palmeiras] a lot. That bond between me and Palmeiras was never broken," the 28-year-old told Globo Esporte.

"Whenever I'm in Brazil, I go there, especially when I've had injuries and treated them there. Obviously, I have the dream of returning one day to play, not to end my career. I think about going back every day - my wife can back that up."

Jesus started his career at Palmeiras, joining them at 14 before breaking into the senior team in 2015 at 18. Two years later, he transferred to Manchester City, scoring 95 goals across 236 appearances. He signed for Arsenal in 2022 for £45m and has since recorded 31 goals in 117 matches, despite ongoing injury issues.

Possible Martinelli sale

Mikel Arteta is reportedly willing to listen to offers for Gabriel Martinelli this summer as he looks to refresh his attacking options. The 24-year-old winger has endured a difficult league campaign, finding the net just once in 25 matches so far.

According to Team Talk, Arsenal are prepared to consider bids for Martinelli when the season ends. The club have openly pursued a new wide attacker, having previously been linked with Antoine Semenyo before his January switch to City, along with players such as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Anthony Gordon and Nico Williams.

Any major signing would likely mean making room within the squad - especially with Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze all vying for playing time across attacking positions. Given his underwhelming recent performances, Martinelli appears the most vulnerable to being moved on.

A consistent presence since breaking into the senior side in 2020, Martinelli has featured more than 250 times and scored 62 goals for Arsenal. However, with both his productivity and impact declining, the possibility of a summer exit now seems increasingly realistic.
