Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell has tipped Liverpool as the team most likely to replicate the Gunners' unbeaten Premier League season.
Campbell was a key figure in the 2003/04 Arsenal side that went 38 games without defeat on their way to lifting the title. Since then, several top-flight English teams have put together impressive runs, but none have managed to equal the unbeaten record set by the north London club.
Liverpool came closest, losing just once in the 2018/19 season, yet astonishingly didn't clinch the league title. The sole loss was to eventual champions Manchester City, who edged the Reds out by a single point. Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side of 2004/05 also suffered only one defeat.
The current Liverpool squad, having recently secured the Premier League title with just four losses, has bolstered its ranks with over $260 million (£200m) worth of talent, including British-record signing Florian Wirtz.
The potential addition of Alexander Isak could further strengthen the squad, and Campbell believes Liverpool could challenge for an unbeaten season.
Speaking to BetSelect, he said: "Never say never. It's very, very hard, but I think it's doable. If you look at the talent in that Liverpool squad now, it would be the most likely for me to go on to be the next Invincibles."
Meanwhile, Campbell has backed Arsenal to secure a fourth consecutive second-place finish, even after spending around $260 million (£200m) on new signings and finally securing a striker.
However, the ex-defender concedes, "It's hard to see past Liverpool at this point."
Liverpool appears prominently amongst the teams to suffer the fewest defeats in a single campaign. Beyond the 2018/19 performance, the Reds was beaten just twice in 2008/09 and again in 2021/22. Remarkably, on all three occasions Liverpool failed to secure the league championship.
Arsenal completed the double over Liverpool during the memorable 2003/04 season, eventually triumphing in 26 of their 38 fixtures with the remaining 12 ending in stalemates.
Campbell acknowledges that achieving the legendary unbeaten feat requires fortune to smile upon you, confessing to several close calls.
Amongst the most pivotal moments of Arsenal's Invincible campaign was the scoreless stalemate at Manchester United merely six matches into the season, where Ruud van Nistelrooy witnessed a crucial late spot-kick cannon off the crossbar.
"It's the perfect season," Campbell previously reflected. "You're never going to win every game, so going unbeaten is as perfect as you can get. It's incredible.
"I still believe that these kinds of achievements choose you, you don't choose them. So many things can happen. Look at the Man United game: Van Nistelrooy scores the penalty, they win the game. We will still probably win the league, but to go unbeaten, nothing can go against you."
