Arsenal & Man City combined XI as Alan Shearer drops Carabao Cup final prediction – 'Pressure on both'

Arsenal take on Man City in Sunday's final at Wembley as they look to lift the first silverware of the season.

Alan Shearer has backed Arsenal to overcome Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, as the first silverware of the season is on offer.

The Gunners will look to get one over on their Premier League title rivals when the two teams meet at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon (4:30pm). After qualification for the quarter-final of the Champions League this week, victory would mean that Arsenal remain on track for a possible quadruple.

Arsenal are nine points clear of their rivals at the top of the Premier League table. As well as the Champions League, they are in the quarter-final of the FA Cup where they will take on Championship side Southampton next month.

Ahead of the Carabao Cup final, Shearer has backed Mikel Arteta’s side to come out on top, although he has predicted that the final could go all the way.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer said: “I think it'll be a great game. I think there'll be loads of talking points.

“It wouldn't even surprise me if it went to penalties. But I think Arsenal might just nick it. I think it'll be a really, really tight game, but I'm going to go for an Arsenal win.

“There is pressure on both clubs and pressure for different reasons. There is talk about this being Pep's last season.

“Man City have been nowhere near what they've been in the past in terms of their defence. They've given so many opportunities away which was summed them up the other night against Real Madrid.

“It’ll be a highly charged game. There'll be plenty of excitement.

“There'll be a bit of bite in the game as well because of obvious reasons. But I'm really looking forward to the game.”

The pundit also gave his combined XI of both Arsenal and Man City players, with Arsenal dominating the pick.

His entire back line is made up of Arsenal players, with just three Man City players making the cut further up the field.

Alan Shearer’s combined XI

David Raya; Jurrien Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel, Riccardo Calafiori; Declan Rice, Rodri, Eberiche Eze; Bukayo Saka, Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo.
