Arsenal have come under fire on social media after a pre-match post ahead of its Premier League showdown with Liverpool at Anfield was widely mocked by fans online.
The Reds have begun the season with two consecutive wins, though their performances against Bournemouth and Newcastle were far from convincing. Arsenal, meanwhile, opened the campaign with a hard-fought victory over Manchester United before thrashing Leeds United last weekend.
Last season, the two sides were evenly matched, with both meetings ending in 2-2 draws — first at The Emirates and then at Anfield. The Gunners are considered favourites for today's game as well as the Premier League title .
Ahead of the game, Arsenal shared a video on X of various different players including Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Viktor Gyokeres with the caption: "Make a statement." But instead of inspiring confidence, it quickly drew ridicule.
One user on X said: "Level of cringe with these lot", while another user added: "Another cringe post, everything about this club is fake. A TikTok club."
A third person said: "3rd game of the season btw. Most cringy club in the world." A fourth user added: "The things I would do for a win today."
While a fifth person said: "That club is the definition of being too online man. They genuinely believe releasing cringey slow mo edits before a game is gonna increase their chances of winning."
Mikel Arteta could be without as many as six players for the game this afternoon, though the head coach remains hopeful that Martin Odegaard will be cleared to play.
Arsenal’s title ambitions were disrupted by injuries last season, and the 2025/26 campaign has already seen a similar pattern. Kai Havertz suffered a knee injury last week, while Bukayo Saka and Odegaard were forced off during the 5-1 win over Leeds United last Saturday.
“We don’t know yet. He hasn’t trained yet and, if he does, it will be tomorrow. Let’s see,” said the Spaniard. “He is doing everything he can, we are doing everything that we can to make himself available - but we will have to wait and see tomorrow.
“There is an injury there, but hopefully if everything goes well, he can cope with it. But we don’t know yet.”
