Arsenal move quickly for next transfer after Viktor Gyokeres with £60m agreement hope

3 months ago 143

Arsenal are expected to move to secure the signing of Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace once the deal for Viktor Gyokeres is complete, it has been claimed.

Gyokeres, 27, landed in London on Friday and is set to undergo his medical before putting the finishing touches to his £55 million plus £8.5m add-ons move to the Emirates Stadium. The plan is for Gyokeres to travel out to South East Asia to meet his new teammates on the club's pre-season tour.

As Sunday's pre-season fixture against Newcastle United is set to come too soon, Gyokeres is on course to make his Arsenal debut in the clash with rivals Tottenham in Hong Kong on Thursday.

Now that the Swede's move is all-but done, the Gunners are able to shift their focus to other targets and Eze is Mikel Arteta's top choice for the attacking midfield position.

According to The Independent, Arsenal are lining up a bid for Eze, who scored 14 times and added 11 assists in 43 matches for Palace last season.

It's added that those close to the player are confident that a deal will be done in the next couple of weeks. Arsenal are hoping to agree a fee that comes to around £60m, rather than his £68m release clause.

Although there has been no formal contact between Arsenal and Palace the suggestions are that both will be flexible, as there is a good relationship between the two boardrooms. It had been claimed that the Gunners are constructing a deal that they hoped could be split into three instalments of £20m each.

Arsenal's preference is to sell a player before they move on to the Eze deal, but it is understood the signing is not dependent on that. There is a chance that Reiss Nelson could be included in a potential transfer.

Should a deal for Gyokeres go through, Arsenal's summer spending would rise above £200m. The Gunners have brought in Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera so far for a combined £159m as Arteta tries to get his squad prepared for another title push.

The Gunners take on Manchester United at Old Trafford in their top-flight curtain-raiser on Sunday, August 17. They then host Leeds United at the Emirates before travelling to Liverpool to wrap up the first month of the season.

Before that, Arteta's side have four pre-season friendlies.

They face Newcastle and Tottenham in Asia before playing host to La Liga duo Villarreal and Athletic Club on Wednesday, August 6 and Saturday, August 9.
