How football.london rated the Arsenal player performances after the Premier League clash with Bournemouth
Arsenal’s title hopes took the biggest blow of the season in their biggest game so far. Mikel Arteta will be left questioning where next after this massive disappointment.
With nerves high in the ground, they were only worsened by the Bournemouth opener, Kroupi at the back post tapping into an empty net following a deflection. Viktor Gyokeres levelled from the spot.
The second half, however was so poor from the Gunners, with Alex Scott taking advantage of the nerves at the back and firing past David Raya. Despite a late rally the game was done, the question now is will Arsenal be too?
Here is how football.london rated the performances of the Arsenal players involved:
David Raya – Had some truly baffling moments, including a pass which should have been punished with a Bournemouth goal. Frustrated the life out of all the Arsenal fans in the ground. 2
Ben White – Was caught with the ball in behind, which led to the opening Bournemouth goal. Hauled off after several mistakes. 2
William Saliba – Deflected the cross which would see Kroupi benefit at the back post to score. Another who couldn’t find the passes out of the back line. 4
Gabriel Magalhaes – Made some huge early blocks and interceptions as his side worked through the nerves. Won the penalty after his attempt to kick the ball into the area hit the raised arm of Christie.
Then launched the ball long, losing possession in his own half leading to the second Bournemouth goal. 4
Myles Lewis-Skelly – Had some good moments in the first half, turning away from his marker and finding teammates. Second half faded and couldn’t find much in the way of possession. 5
Martin Zubimendi – Was causing some angst in the stands as several passes went astray, and even caused Gyokeres’ frustration when he didn’t play the ball to him when the opportunity arose. His worst display in an Arsenal shirt. 2
Declan Rice – Was a threat from outside the box, with some deflected efforts earning the home side corners. Was a moment in the second half where he had something of a ‘stuff it’ moment, driving through the midfield and striking but his efforts led t very little too. 4
Noni Madueke – Offered very little in the first half, couldn’t beat his man. 2
Kai Havertz – Had a great opportunity to level the score, heading a corner just over the bar. But besides that also struggled to get into the game and misplaced several passes. 3
Viktor Gyokeres – Smashed in the penalty to score his 18th goal of the season. He was probably their best player. 6
Gabriel Martinelli – Another winger who couldn’t beat his man on the left and was taken off without much of a whimper. 2
Substitutes:
Max Dowman – Arsenal could not find the winger enough and he looked spritely but some ways needing to turn to a player so young epitomised Arsenal’s plight. 5
Eberechi Eze – Came on and sadly couldn’t improve things much beyond what Havertz had done. 4
Leandro Trossard – An excellent, potentially goal-stopping block in his own last-ditch challenge. But offensively couldn’t find the difference. 3
