Arsenal probe deal for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia with PSG star 'open to blockbuster transfer'

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been in sensational form at Paris Saint-Germain, with Arsenal keeping tabs on his situation ahead of the summer transfer window

Arsenal are investigating whether a transfer for Paris Saint-Germain star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is possible this summer. That is according to The Independent, who have also claimed that the Gunners are anticipated to complete a big squad reshuffle this season, with Kvaratskhelia appearing to be a marquee target.

The 25-year-old only joined PSG in January 2024 for £59million, but the report has claimed that his camp would be open to the move.

That is unlikely to be the stance of his current club, however, given his importance and with it specifically noted that the the winger is viewed as the jewel of their current project.

In north London, meanwhile, selling a senior player is under serious consideration, with Arsenal wanting to complete sales this summer.

In doing so, it would give the club much more breathing room in relation to the Premier League's change in financial regulations to Squad Cost Ratio.

That does not look set to prevent Arsenal from spending big this summer, with Kvaratskhelia an attacking addition that would immediately raise the ceiling of Mikel Arteta's squad.

However, a deal appears highly complex with the Georgian having three years of his contract remaining. Though the transfer has seemingly not been closed off by his representatives, PSG are unlikely to entertain a departure unless sizeable funds are on the table.

Luis Enrique's side eliminated Arsenal on their way to winning the Champions League last season, with both clubs in the quarter-finals this time around, and the two teams could yet meet in the final.

The holders thumped Chelsea 8-2 on aggregate earlier this month, with Kvaratskhelia on target three times. That has formed a quarter of his goals this season, with the versatile forward also on seven assists from a total of 37 appearances.

It may take some serious convincing of Kvaratskhelia for him to move to the Premier League, though, following his recent comments on PSG.

He told Le Parisien: “Paris, for me, is truly incredible. You have everything here, and on top of that, it’s the city of love. When PSG called me, I think my wife was the happiest person in the world.

"Before PSG contacted me, she always said, ‘Imagine if we played for PSG one day, it would be incredible to live there.’ I would reply, ‘Yes, of course.’ But in my mind, I thought it was very difficult to go there when there were such amazing players like [Lionel] Messi, Neymar and [Kylian] Mbappe.

"I love Paris, I love everything about Paris. The more I think about it, the more I appreciate how respectful people are. When you go out, they don't bother you much. At a restaurant, for example, they ask before taking a photo. I really like that. It's the best city to stroll around in with your wife."

Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez has also been mooted as a concrete target for the Gunners, with the former Manchester City star thriving in Spain.
