Sandro Tonali's agent has confirmed summer transfer discussions will take place with Newcastle United, with Arsenal linked with the midfielder

Sandro Tonali's agent has delivered a significant update regarding Newcastle United by confirming that transfer talks with the club will take place during the summer. This follows rumours on deadline day linking Arsenal with a move for the Italy international.

Tonali's future has become a major topic of conversation in recent days following reports linking the Italian with a switch to the Gunners in the final hours of the transfer window.

A deadline day story surfaced suggesting Arsenal were interested in signing the 25-year-old, although it was also reported that no talks were held between Arsenal and Newcastle.

Tonali's agent, Giuseppe Riso, went on to deny claims that he had been in contact with Arsenal, but in a new development, he has spoken to Tuttosport. where he suggests the midfielder could leave St James' Park during the summer.

Alongside Arsenal, Juventus are understood to be eager to bring the player back to Serie A, whilst Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been linked with Tonali, reports Chronicle Live.

“Newcastle are having a hard time letting go of Sandro, and he wants to lead the club to the Champions League,” Riso said.

"These transfer discussions will take place later. We’ll see how the season ends and then we’ll decide what to do.

“There’s no preference at the moment. It’s still early. What we’re saying today won’t apply tomorrow. Newcastle couldn’t let him go now, and there’s no point in moving, especially since Sandro is very attached to the club.

“We’ll evaluate and decide what to do in the summer.”

Tonali established himself last season as one of the pivotal figures in Eddie Howe's squad, especially after being deployed in the No 6 position within a midfield trio featuring Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

His outstanding displays contributed to Newcastle lifting the Carabao Cup and securing Champions League qualification. Newcastle are now reported to value Tonali at in excess of £100m, and it remains to be seen if Arsenal's interest will turn out to be genuine.

The Gunners were heavily linked with signing a new midfielder on deadline day in response to the injury to Mikel Merino.

Whether or not Arsenal will go into the market for a new midfielder when the summer transfer window is still open is uncertain, particularly if Tonali will be a target.
