Arsenal race to complete Eberechi Eze transfer for Leeds debut as medical set

4 hours ago 2

Eberechi Eze will become Arsenal's seventh signing of the summer when he puts pen to paper on a deal to join the club he was rejected by 14 years ago.

Arsenal moved swiftly to hijack Tottenham's prepared move for the Crystal Palace ace this week, making their move on Wednesday afetr the 27-year-old had looked set to join the Gunners' north London rivals.

The Gunners were interested in signing Eze earlier in the summer transfer window, but cooled their interest when Ethan Nwaneri signed a new contract, putting more emphasis on players leaving the club instead.

But following an injury to Kai Havertz, sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Mikel Arteta stormed into action and Eze is undergoing his medical at the club's training base on Friday morning.

Arsenal will complete a £67.5million deal to sign Eze, with a £60million fee and the extra £7.5million to come in performance related add-ons.

Another Premier League weekend is upon us and with the medical ongoing, Arsenal are in a race to complete the transfer in time for Eze to make his debut this weekend.

Arsenal take on Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday and Eze could be in line for a debut, if the deal is done in time for Premier League regulations.

If Eze is undergoing his medical, it stands to reason that he could well be involved in training with his new teammates on Friday too.

But if he is to play against Leeds, he must be registered by 12pm on Friday as an Arsenal player.

Rule U.23 of the Premier League handbook states : "Subject to the provisions of Rule V.1, the deadline for receipt by the board of all duly completed documents required by these rules to effect the registration of a player shall be 12 noon on the last working day before the date of the first league match in which the club making the application intends him to play, save that the international transfer certificate and evidence of eligibility to take up employment in the United Kingdom (in both cases if applicable) may be provided thereafter (but must be provided before the player is eligible to play for a club in a league match."
