Arsenal are through to the Champions League semi-finals after a 1-0 win on aggregate over Sporting. It is the first time in their history that the Gunners have reached consecutive semis in Europe's elite competition.

Mikel Arteta's side will face Atletico Madrid in the last four - looking to reach a second final in the competition they have never won before. Arsenal topped the League Phase with a 100 per cent record, which included wins over Bayern Munich and Atletico.

The Gunners then saw off Bayer Leverkusen over two legs in the last 16 with a 3-1 win on aggregate. And that has been followed by a win over Portuguese champions Sporting.

Arteta's team will now take on La Liga's Atletico for the second time this season, having beaten them 4-0 in the League Phase back in October. The first leg will take place in Madrid on Wednesday, April 29 at 8pm BST.

The second leg in north London will then take place six days later on Tuesday, May 5 at 8pm.

Atletico saw off Spanish champions Barcelona 3-2 on aggregate in their quarter-final tie. Diego Simeone's side are also chasing their first Champions League title having reached two previous finals under the Argentine.

The other semi-final will be reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain against Bayern.

PSG saw off Liverpool 4-0 on aggregate in the last eight as they look to join Real Madrid as the only side to retain the Champions League.

They face a Bayern side who won a thrilling quarter-final tie against Real. The Bundesliga giants sealed their spot in the last four with a 6-4 win on aggregate.

Whoever comes out on top in the semi-finals will meet at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on Saturday, May 30 (5pm) for the final.

And Arsenal remain within a chance of winning a rare Premier League and Champions League double.

The Gunners face league title rivals Manchester City on Sunday, knowing that victory will move them back to nine points clear at the summit.
