Arsenal's four-player transfer shortlist ahead of deadline day amid Piero Hincapie update

7 hours ago 26

Arsenal have four transfer targets - alongside Piero Hincapie - that Andrea Berta could actively pursue ahead of deadline day. The summer window concludes in just a few days with numerous exits going through, and at least one incoming as the hope in north London.

The Bayer Leverkusen defender appears to have been identified as Arsenal's potential eighth new summer arrival - following in the footsteps of Eberechi Eze, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

With over £250million spent already, exits are certainly needed and one of those could prove key to a deal being agreed for Hincapie. Porto have a strong interest in Jakub Kiwior and either his exit or Leverkusen letting Hincapie depart will likely give the other switch the green light.

As things stand, neither deal appears imminent with a deadline clearly set for the Ecuador international to ensure Arsenal are not scrambling for a Kiwior replacement if the offer from Portugal is accepted.

To avoid paying the £51.8million (€60m) release clause in his Leverkusen contract, the Gunners will be hoping to agree an initial loan, before permanently signing him next summer. Funds being tight is likely the main reason for that preference with minimal sellable assets at the club to help offset spending.

With it also possible that Arsenal are unable to sign Hincapie before Monday's deadline, two alternatives to the 23-year-old look to have been identified - if Kiwior joins Porto. According to The Daily Mail, checks have been made on Real Sociedad centre-back Jon Martin and Girona defender Arnau Martinez.

The latter has also been linked to Crystal Palace and West Ham United with both Premier League clubs looking to sign new defenders to potentially replace a key player and strengthen at the back, respectively.

Their report has added that Ajax's versatile attacker Oscar Gloukh, and Nordsjaelland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, are on the Gunners' watch list. Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira departing permanently could open the door for those two specific additions.

A switch to the Bundesliga for Vieira is the most likely outcome - with Stuttgart and Bayern Munich linked. Nelson meanwhile, looked set for a return to Fulham on another season-long loan, but that now looks unlikely with Marco Silva's side actively pursuing Kevin of Shakhtar Donetsk and AC Milan's Samuel Chukwueze to strengthen his attack.

However, the 25-year-old is still expected to depart within the next 96 hours as Crystal Palace, who have held a long-term interest in the player, are now in talks to sign him, as football.london understands.
