Luis Munoz made UEFA history with his appearance off the bench in Arsenal under-19s' 4-2 win against Bayern Munich on Wednesday afternoon.

Arsenal academy starlet Luis Munoz has become the youngest player at just 13 to feature in the UEFA Youth League. The teenager came on for the final four minutes of the Gunners' 4-2 victory over Bayern Munich at Mangata Developments Stadium.

Ceadach O'Neill and Kyran Thompson were on target for the under-19s in between two Max Dowman strikes with the second of those a sensational solo run and delicate finish deep into added time.

Defeats to Slavia Prague, Atletico Madrid, Olympiacos and Athletic Club have been suffered by David Horseman's side before the win over Bayern with that coming as their first three points in the league phase.

With the Arsenal youth team unlikely to qualify for the knockout stages, several younger academy stars were called up to feature as Munoz was also joined by Emerson Nwaneri. The latter has impressed for the under-16s over the last few months.

Munoz meanwhile, has not featured for the under-18s but has shown to be more than capable of playing up a few age groups as evidenced by some displays at Nwaneri's age group.

With Arsenal looking to see out a much-needed win, both of those players were introduced which saw Munoz, who is 13 years 11 months and 15 days old, become the youngest player ever to feature in the UEFA Youth League.

It is hardly surprising that Arsenal now hold that record given the talent that has come out of their academy. Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Ethan Nwaneri have all progressed into the first-team squad in recent years.

Dowman is the latest to make a breakthrough into the senior team with some dazzling cameos while Saka and Noni Madueke were out injured.

With both of those wingers back available following Madueke's return in the North London Derby win over Tottenham after two months out, Dowman has been again featuring for the academy.

The 15-year-old showed his ability off the bench during the first few weeks of the 2025/26 season and that prompted Arteta to make him the Champions League's youngest appearance-maker at the age of 15 years and 308 days.

Less than one earlier, he became the youngest Arsenal player to start a game as he featured from the off against Brighton in the Carabao Cup with Arteta unsurprisingly in awe of his ability.

He said: "What he's done on the pitch - he comes in, the first ball he takes is he takes people on, he starts to dribble and gets a foul.

“That's personality, that's courage - and you cannot teach that. You have it or you don't.

"And it doesn't matter what his passport says. You throw him in this context and he is able to adapt and have a good performance."
