Max Dowman's incredible breakthrough season for Arsenal could become even more memorable in the coming weeks
Phil Foden's record as the youngest player to ever clinch a Premier League winners’ medal could be broken this season by Arsenal’s Max Dowman.
Dowman announced himself to the world of senior professional football in unforgettable fashion last weekend. Having become the youngest person to play in the Champions League earlier this season at just 15, the teenager was introduced during the second half of the Premier League match against Everton.
Despite the high-stakes nature of the game, with Arsenal teetering on the brink of a potentially title-threatening 0-0 draw, Dowman demonstrated skills and composure far beyond his age to help seal the victory. The Hale End academy graduate's cross in the 89th minute led directly to a blunder by Jordan Pickford, allowing Viktor Gyokeres to score the first goal.

Dowman's standing as one of the most promising talents in world football was showcased again when he ran the length of the pitch during a counterattack before coolly slotting home in the 97th minute.
That made him the youngest ever Premier League goal-scorer, aged 16 and 73 days, in what many expect will be an extraordinary career. And the teenage sensation could still shatter more records this season, including one set by Manchester City's Foden back in May 2018.
Dowman has already featured three times in the league this term, meaning he needs just two more appearances across Arsenal's remaining seven fixtures to secure a Premier League winners' medal, provided they don't let their nine-point advantage slip at this stage.
The Gunners are expected to win the league title at long last, which would see Dowman become the youngest player in history to achieve such success. Having celebrated his 16th birthday on New Year's Eve, Dowman would eclipse Foden's record of winning the title aged 17 years and 350 days.
Foden, who reached the minimum five appearances required in City's 2017/18 campaign, failed to find the net across those matches, unlike Dowman. The two could meet on the pitch for the first time this Sunday in the eagerly-awaited Carabao Cup final.
Former PFA Players' Player of the Year Foden, 25, is experiencing a below-par season by his lofty standards, having netted 10 goals and provided five assists across all competitions. Nevertheless, he is expected to be included in Thomas Tuchel's England squad announcement for the two World Cup 2026 preparatory fixtures later this month.
Meanwhile, the general consensus is that the World Cup this summer will come too soon for Dowman and he is therefore expected to miss out on the upcoming friendlies. Tuchel not calling up Dowman at this stage would not be an assessment of his ability but rather an effort to protect him from the limelight at such a young age.
