Ethan Nwaneri has been linked with a move away from Arsenal amid a lack of regular game time for the Gunners

Ethan Nwaneri is being linked with a move away from Arsenal as the January transfer window rolls on. The Gunners are top of the Premier League table and have the chance to extend their lead with a victory over reigning champions Liverpool on Thursday night.

Arsenal have not seen themselves linked with many potential new signings this month, having brought in eight new faces during the summer transfer window.

The signings of Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze may have strengthened the wide forward options available to Mikel Arteta, but it has resulted in less game time for Nwaneri.

The teenager enjoyed his breakthrough season for the Gunners last term, scoring nine goals across 37 appearances across all competitions.

This season, though, Nwaneri has featured just 11 times with six of those coming in the Premier League, and the 18-year-old has yet to start a single match in the top flight this term.

As a result, The Independent have reported that Bournemouth have expressed an interest in signing Nwaneri on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Cherries are on the verge of seeing Antoine Semenyo leave the club to join Manchester City in a £65million deal, and would be in need of reinforcements in the forward department.

Despite this, the same report claims that Nwaneri would rather remain at Arsenal until the end of the campaign rather than leave the Emirates Stadium to join a new club on loan.

Amid this report, football.london understands that Nwaneri is still expected to remain at Arsenal beyond this transfer window despite links away from the club on loan.

Arteta was recently asked about Nwaneri's future, including the prospect of the forward leaving on loan before the transfer window closed.

"Every player is very important, every player has a role," Arteta said last week. "That role can change throughout the season for different reasons and everybody has to be ready to play."

Arteta's comments were made before Arsenal claimed a 3-2 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League at the weekend.

Nwaneri was not named in the matchday squad for the Gunners for the second consecutive match, having also not been included for the win over Aston Villa before the turn of the year.

Nwaneri's last appearance for Arsenal was from the bench on December 10 against Club Brugge in the Champions League, while his previous match in the Premier League was back on November 23 against Tottenham Hotspur with a last-minute cameo.
