Arsenal have not wasted any time with their transfer business this summer and are showing no signs of slowing down.
September 1 may be the transfer deadline for the Gunners and the rest of the Premier League, but Mikel Arteta will likely want all, if not most, of his new signings through the door before the Premier League opener against Manchester United on August 17.
Cristhian Mosquera was confirmed as the latest new signing by Arsenal on Thursday. The defender joins Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Kepa Arrizabalaga in completing a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Arsenal are also closing in on a move to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. Once that deal is completed, the Gunners will have added six new players to their squad, and there is still the potential for more new faces to arrive before the September deadline.
It remains to be seen what areas of the squad Arsenal will look to strengthen before the summer transfer window closes, but there is one position that the Gunners may be wise to look at.
The left-wing position has been an area of the squad that Arsenal have been rumoured to be looking at for some time, and a host of players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Real Madrid star Rodrygo has been linked with Arsenal for some time, but the rumours have quietened down in the last few weeks. But the Gunners may still be wise to look at signing a new left winger before the window closes.
One player who could be a contender worth looking at for Arsenal is Rafael Leao. The AC Milan star has been linked with the Gunners before, as his future at the San Siro has become the subject of speculation of late, but whether there is any genuine interest remains to be seen.
Leao was heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich earlier in the transfer window, but those rumours have calmed down just lately. The Bundesliga club have seemingly moved their attention to signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool, which could give Arsenal the advantage if they do go on to have an interest in Leao.
The Portugal international also has the advantage of being able to operate in multiple positions in the forward line, including centre forward. Even though Arsenal are looking to sign Gyokeres, having another player who can play as a striker would be an added bonus.
It would also allow several other forward players, including new signing Madueke, to have greater flexibility in the final third.
However, Milan are reported to have set an asking price of €130million (£113million) for Leao, which could make things difficult for Arsenal. But if the Gunners were to sanction an exit or two to raise funds, then, theoretically at least, it may then be possible for Arsenal to have the finances to get a deal over the line.
