Noni Madueke is off the mark for Arsenal after netting his first goal for the club against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday evening
Noni Madueke has revealed he was never fazed by the online #NoToMadueke petition that began to trend ahead of his £52million switch from Chelsea.
The England international scored his first Gunners goal on Wednesday night in the 3-1 Champions League triumph over Bayern Munich and he's quickly established himself as a major hit at the Emirates after moving across London in the summer.
Madueke has made it clear the reaction to his arrival from match-going supporters was entirely different to the trolls that seemed determined to spread hate on social media.
He said of his love for Gunners supporters: "To be honest, I just kind of take that stuff in my stride. It is normal, you are in the public eye, people can say whatever they want about you.
"But being in the stadium, and how the fans have taken to me in the stadium, is unbelievable. I am not really worried about all of that. It is in the distant past."
The 23-year-old is now using the electric energy from the stands to kick on in his new colours and there's hope his Bayern goal will be the first of many.
He continued: "Like the last game versus Tottenham, it was incredible and that gives me such a boost. I play on the side of the pitch, I can feel them [the fans], I can hear them.
"When they are that positive about me it gives me a massive boost. Honestly, I am made up about it."
Madueke's promising start to life at the Emirates was interrupted by a knee injury in September when he picked up a problem in the closing stages of the first half of the 1-1 draw against Manchester City.
He said of his injury hell: "It was horrible, the timing of the injury. It was horrible timing, but it is what it is. You face adversity as a footballer and it is about how you get back. Today was great for me, personally, and great for the team. I am really happy."
Arsenal are now flying high at the top of both the Premier League and Champions League standings.
They are the only team in Europe's elite club competition to win all five of their group phase matches and they can extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points with a win at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Madueke insists Arsenal won't be getting carried away though, explaining: "Our goal going into every game is to win the game. I don’t know if it is great to be thinking so far ahead in November.
"I just feel like we can control what we can control - that’s every single day on the training ground, every single time we step up on the pitch - and try to give the best account of ourselves. I feel like that’s what we are doing at the moment."
