Vincent Kompany complained about Jurrien Timber's goal for Arsenal in their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich
Manuel Neuer and Vincent Kompany both displayed telling reactions following Jurrien Timber's opening goal for Arsenal during the first half of their Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich. The Gunners struggled to threaten Neuer's net until the 22nd minute when Timber glanced home a header from a Bukayo Saka corner.
Martin Zubimendi played a crucial role in winning that set-piece, pressuring Konrad Laimer before the ball deflected out off the Bayern player. Neuer advanced from his line attempting to punch away Saka's delivery, but Timber got there first.
The veteran shot-stopper immediately accepted responsibility, with cameras capturing him offering an apology for his role in conceding. Seconds earlier, Kompany was filmed gesturing towards the fourth official with his arms spread wide.
Whilst his exact grievance remained unclear, former Germany midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger believed he understood the manager's frustration.
Speaking on MOTD: UEFA Champions League, he explained: "That push on Neuer just as the corner comes in is not enough for a foul but Myles Lewis-Skelly clearly knew what he was doing, It's very clever."
Bayern responded swiftly, however, with Lennart Karl finding the net following a cross from Michael Olise. Clear-cut chances proved scarce during the opening period, despite both teams managing to score.
Leandro Trossard subsequently featured in another notable moment when he was withdrawn due to injury, with Noni Madueke coming on in his place. Despite the recent return of Madueke, Martinelli and Riccardo Calafiori, injuries continue to hamper Arteta's squad.
He stated: "Really good, both of them. In the next few days, they're going to have a repeat scan to see how everything is and where we can push them for the weekend."
Regarding Gabriel Jesus' recovery, he further added: "It's about making the steps day-by-day in a different surrounding. He's been doing everything on his own.
"Now he's got very competitive players around him, and let's see how he copes with that. But he's full of energy."
Gabriel Magalhaes sustained an injury while on international duty with Brazil and is predicted to be sidelined until at least mid-December.
Earlier this month, Arteta said: "He picked up an injury with the national team, and he's going to be out for weeks.
"We need to have another scan, I think, it is next Wednesday, and we'll have a timeline, probably, much more clear at that moment."
