Max Dowman lit up the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal picked up a crucial win over Everton to move 10 pints clear
Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres joked that he would snatch the Player of the Match award from 16-year-old starlet Max Dowman.
The talented teenager opened his senior account as he rubberstamped the Gunners' 2-0 win over Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday. Dowman was first to a loose ball following a clearance from the corner before beating Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and running unopposed into an empty net as the Toffees chased an equaliser.
Dowman and Gyokeres were two second-half substitutes from Mikel Arteta as they were brought on in an attacking switch with Arsenal looking to pick up a crucial win. Their introductions came with the game goalless, but the Swede was in the right place at the right time after the ball fell to him in the six-yard box to open the scoring.

The performance saw him earn the Player of the Match award as well but Gyokeres' parting comment suggested that he may snatch the accolade. With a laugh, he told Sky Sports: "Yeah, let's see about that."
Arsenal moved 10 points clear before City's encounter against West Ham United in east London. They had to battle against David Moyes' side, weathering their onslaught and riding their luck with Dwight McNeil striking the post in the first-half.

Speaking after the win, Gyokeres said: "It's incredible, you can see how he plays, he plays so calm, without fear everytime he gets the ball.
"He makes the right decisions as well, you can see with the goal, he picked the right one, he's a great goal and a great player. I'm so happy for him.
"I think it's normal when it's 0-0 and only a few minutes left, we always try to win games, we know how important it is. You saw the atmosphere after the goals, it's what we love.
"Every win is important. We try to do our best, we can't control other results, we're in a good position and we'll try to enjoy this win.
"We're going into games with the right attitude and belief, I think we can achieve anything. When Max come on, you can feel it, we're behind him like we are everyone which is why we play good."
Former Chelsea and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge was lost for words with the 16-year-old. He said: "I mean, I don't know if people quite understand how difficult it is to do what he's done.
"To head the ball down at speed, to be able to have the strength, the dribbling on his weaker right foot to keep it so close to your body. Fully deserved goal.
"This kid... What this young man has done there, I mean come on."
