Arsenal strike huge agreement as Eberechi Eze update given amid transfer links

4 hours ago 28

Mikel Arteta will be eager to return to winning ways ahead of the new Premier League season. Before Arsenal face Manchester United at Old Trafford next weekend, they must take on Athletic Club at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday night.

The Gunners lost 3-2 to Villarreal in their penultimate pre-season friendly earlier this week. The north Londoners enjoyed the lion's share of possession, but they struggled to break down the Spanish outfit, with each of their two efforts coming from set-pieces.

Arteta will be hoping to see a much-improved performance against Athletic Club this evening. So, with that being said, football.london rounded up the latest Arsenal transfer news.

Glasner provides Eze update

Oliver Glasner has provided an update on Eberechi Eze's future at Crystal Palace. Speaking to the Mirror ahead of the Eagles' clash against Liverpool in the Community Shield on Sunday, he said: "He will play on Sunday, definitely, and Marc [Guehi] as well – he will captain the team."

The Palace boss added: "Marc and I, we have the same fate, but I can't speak on behalf of Marc. In the end, it's always the player's decision, and Marc will decide his future.

"Of course, everybody wants Marc to sign a new contract, everybody who is connected to Crystal Palace at least. Everybody wants to keep the squad together because they did so well last season.

"But again, I don't know how often this happens here at Palace, keeping your top 15 to 16 players going into a new season when you've performed that well. That's also a great achievement for the club, but you never know what happens in this sometimes crazy transfer market."

football.london says: "I can't see Eberechi Eze leaving Crystal Palace this late into the summer transfer window."

Nwaneri signs new Arsenal contract

Ethan Nwaneri has signed a new five-year contract at Emirates Stadium. The 18-year-old midfielder, whose previous deal was set to expire in June 2026, established himself as a regular in Arteta's squad last season, featuring 37 times across all competitions.

"It means everything to me, I'm so happy to have got it done. This is where I feel at home, and where I'm going to develop the best," he said. "I'm very excited. I see this as my first real season and part of a proper squad in the changing room.

"I'm so excited for what I can bring to the team and how I can help the team. I think I've actually become more direct over the past few years and I've added more goals, so I'm excited for what will come next."

football.london says: "This is huge for Arsenal. I hope Mikel Arteta gives Ethan Nwnaneri the minutes on the pitch that he deserves."

Ronaldo gives Arsenal transfer verdict

Cristiano Ronaldo believes Arsenal have signed a 'special player' in Viktor Gyokeres. Speaking to Metro, the Al Nassr striker insisted that Sporting will remain 'competitive' despite the striker's recent departure.

"I hope it’s a competitive league," said Ronaldo. "I always hope for the best and that Sporting can be champions again. We only miss those who are there; that’s what they say.

"I believe Sporting will be competitive. Gyokeres was a special player, but the team will have to adapt. I believe [Luis] Suarez, who arrived from Almeria, is an excellent forward.

"[Conrad] Harder is also a good player, young, and needs time. I watched the Super Cup, Sporting performed well against Benfica but they didn’t win because they couldn’t, that’s football."

football.london says: "I wouldn't go as far as calling Viktor Gyokeres a 'special player'. He's a good striker, but a 'special player' feels a bit much after a couple of great years in Portugal. But who am I to question Cristiano Ronaldo?"
