Arsenal announced two signings on transfer deadline day but failed to land a midfielder for Mikel Arteta to accommodate for Spanish star Mikel Merino's foot injury
Another transfer window has closed, and Arsenal have not added any new faces to their first-team squad for the final Premier League title push. Deals were made, but the Gunners will have to rely on their existing roster.
Mikel Merino's foot injury raised concerns, prompting Arsenal to explore a last-minute move for cover. However, their search did not yield the desired results.
On Monday, Mikel Arteta confirmed that the club was in the market, but he also acknowledged that a deal was far from guaranteed.
"We need to do everything that we possibly can to see if we have a player that is available. And if we don't, we keep what we have," he stated.
"At this level, especially for four months, you have to be a player that has the capacity to adapt immediately and impact the team. That's not easy. But if it were easy, we wouldn't be here. So, we need to find solutions and try."
With that in mind, we looked at the latest Arsenal news.

Tonali truth?
Sandro Tonali's agent has refuted claims that he offered the Newcastle star to Arsenal on transfer deadline day to address the Gunners' midfield woes. The Italian ace was briefly linked with a sensational move to the Emirates on deadline day.
While Tonali is highly rated by Arsenal, both clubs quickly dismissed the idea before reports emerged that Arsenal had been given the opportunity to sign him by the player's representatives.
However, Tonali's representative, Giuseppe Riso, has now addressed the speculation in conversation with Sky Italia. "We never had any conversation with Arsenal," Riso is reported as saying.
"Newcastle were never gonna let Tonali leave in January. There's absolutely nothing into it. We didn't even talk about it."
Late deadline day confirmation.
Arsenal left it until the eleventh hour to officially confirm the signing of Evan Mooney from Scottish Premiership side St Mirren on Monday evening. Although the announcement came after the transfer window had closed, the 18-year-old has already arrived and is set to join the club's academy ranks.
It's understood that Mooney has moved for an initial £400,000, with a further £400,000 in performance-related bonuses and an undisclosed sell-on clause forming part of the deal.
Arsenal confirmed the transfer, stating: "Everyone at Arsenal would like to congratulate Evan and welcome him to the club."
Gunners secure defensive addition.
In another late piece of business, the Gunners brought in another promising youngster on deadline day. The Premier League leaders secured a deal for Stoke City centre-half Jaden Dixon, with the transfer valued at close to £500,000.
The 18-year-old arrives as a highly-rated prospect, with Arsenal seeing off competition from several other interested clubs to complete the signing.
Dixon made his Championship debut last term and is primarily a right-sided defender who can also operate at right-back. This kind of versatility is something Mikel Arteta is known to value highly.
