Arsenal take on Villarreal at the Emirates Stadium in their penultimate summer pre-season match. Having returned from their tour of Asia, which saw them win over AC Milan and Newcastle and lose to North London rivals Spurs, the Gunners are looking to end their summer preparations with two final wins at their home ground.
The clash, as well as the weekend’s meeting with Athletic Club, has sold out, with fans keen to catch a glimpse of what the team is looking like before the Premier League season. There is also the opportunity, for the first time, to see the club’s summer signings.
Viktor Gyokeres is the main attraction certainly with supporters already having bought enough of the Swede’s shirts to break the Arsenal kit record. Other signings include Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabala, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke who could make his unofficial debut for the side having returned to training on Monday.
Mikel Arteta is under plenty of pressure to return a major title this season and while pre-season is mainly about fitness, the hard work has already begun. The words from players have been clear and they’re gunning for the Premier League crown.
In this friendly from the Emirates, you can expect updates throughout, any points of note from inside the stadium and insight. All the action and build-up to come on football.london with our chief Arsenal writer Tom Canton.
