Arsenal will earn millions from two transfer clauses that could be activated in January

Arsenal are expected to oversee a quiet January transfer window but they could receive some bonus cash thanks to two sell-on clauses previously negotiated by Edu

While there is unlikely to be major movement at Arsenal during the January window, they could be in line to overturn some transfer profit next month courtesy of two sell-on clauses.

That's because former players Nuno Tavares and Brooke Norton-Cuffy, who both currently play in Serie A, are attracting interest ahead of the winter market which opens on Thursday.

Wing-back Tavares, signed from Benfica in July 2021, left Arsenal for Lazio in July 2024 on an initial loan which also included an obligation to buy.

The deal, which became permanent last summer for around £7.85million, also included a notable sell-on clause for the Gunners which would entitle them to a chunk of profit.

Initially it was suggested that Arsenal's clause would be worth around 25 per cent of any future fee but Italian sources have since claimed it could be worth as high as 35 per cent.

Nonetheless, the Portugal international has been the subject of discussions with Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad and could yet depart the Serie A outfit this winter.

Talks between the parties are continuing but if Al-Ittihad are to pursue and successfully negotiate a deal, Arsenal's coffers would be bolstered.

Tavares made 28 appearances for the north London club, scoring once, and also spent time on loan at Marseille and Nottingham Forest during a short-lived stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Meanwhile, U21 European Championship winner Norton-Cuffy left Arsenal for Genoa in August 2024 for an initial £1.75m plus around £1.75m in bonuses.

Crucially, the Gunners also negotiated a sell-on clause which entitles them to a cut of undisclosed profit.

The 21-year-old, who joined the Gunners aged 10 and graduated through their prestigious Hale End academy, worked under former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira at Genoa but the Frenchman was sacked and replaced by Daniele De Rossi in November.

Both Juventus and Inter Milan are said to be monitoring the Englishman, though there is still no guarantee at this stage that the player will earn a move with Genoa battling relegation.

Juve are in the process of unveiling Marco Ottolini as their new sporting director following his departure from Genoa.

The 45-year-old Italian chief brought Norton-Cuffy to Italy and per Italian reports, is set to officially begin work in his new role in Turin in the New Year.

Norton-Cuffy's representatives Roc Nation Sports also have a strong working professional relationship with Inter as they also look after Federico Dimarco and Luis Henrique, respectively.

Inter are targeting a new right wing-back as Denzel Dumfries recently underwent ankle surgery.
