Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman sends message to Rio Ngumoha after historic Liverpool goal

2 hours ago 31

Arsenal teenage sensation Max Dowman has labelled Rio Ngumoha "the best" after the Liverpool talent scored a last-gasp winner against Newcastle United on Monday.

Dowman became the second-youngest player in Premier League history when he came on, aged 15 years and 235 days, during Arsenal's 5-0 win over Leeds United on Saturday.

He replaced Noni Madueke in the 64th minute and impressed during his time on the pitch. Dowman wasn't afraid to get a shot off, while he won the penalty leading to Arsenal's fifth goal.

There had been a lot of talk about Dowman's age following the weekend, and while Ngumoha is a tad older, his impact on Liverpool's trip to Newcastle was somehow even more impressive.

Arriving as a stoppage-time substitute for Cody Gakpo, Ngumoha scored within four minutes of his introduction to earn Liverpool a dramatic 3-2 win during a blockbuster affair at St James' Park.

Mohamed Salah played the ball across the ball and after a smart dummy from Dominik Szoboszlai, Ngumoha took the ball in his stride before curling the ball into the bottom corner, giving Nick Pope no chance.

In the process, ex-Chelsea starlet Ngumoha, who was making his top-flight debut, became the fourth-youngest Premier League goalscorer, aged 16 years and 361 days old.

Reacting to Ngumoha's strike, Dowman, who has played alongside the Liverpool forward in the England youth set-up across the past couple of years, issued a two-word message on social media.

Responding to Rising Ballers' post, Dowman, who has more than 500,000 followers, wrote on his Instagram story: "The best @rio_ngumoha," alongside a red love heart emoji.

Speaking after his historic first goal, Ngumoha said: "I'm 16 but I don't want my age to show that I can't play with the older players. I want to prove that I can play with people not just my age, many ages above.

"People at the club are always helping me and I'm always learning and improving. Normally, last season especially, the Academy coaches and even the first-team coaches, are always saying, 'Make the back post, make the back post'.

"The fact that I made the back post is just crazy... when I saw it with Mo (Salah) and then Dom (Szoboszlai) putting it through his legs, I was like one-v-one and I just smashed it."
