Aston Villa join Newcastle and Tottenham in attempts to sign Liverpool star with 44 appearances this season

Tottenham’s pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones may be about to get a lot harder as we approach the summer transfer window.

Some senior midfielders are expected to depart Spurs this summer even if the club stay in the Premier League, with Roberto De Zerbi set to put his imprint on the squad ahead of his first full season in charge of Tottenham.

An England international midfielder, for whom Tottenham had explored a move in January, is thought to remain high on the Lilywhites’ wishlist ahead of the summer.

It was suggested by The Daily Mail last week that Tottenham are set to reignite its pursuit of Curtis Jones, who is said to be keen on leaving Anfield in search of regular game time.

Aston Villa are positioning themselves to beat Tottenham to Curtis Jones

A new report in TEAMtalk has now confirmed that the 25-year-old, who will enter the final year of his contract at Anfield, is on his way out this summer, with contract talks having stalled.

While Tottenham are named as one of the clubs interested in Jones, alongside Newcastle United and Inter Milan, the report says that Aston Villa have now also entered the race for the midfielder and are ready to ‘step up their interest’.

Villa are ‘positioning themselves strongly’ in the race for Jones and are now preparing a ‘concrete move’ for the Englishman as they prioritise strengthening their midfield ahead of next season.

Why Aston Villa may have an advantage over Spurs in race for Jones

TEAMtalk also reveal that Liverpool and Villa have a recent history in the transfer market, having struck a deal for Harvey Elliott to move to Villa Park last summer.

While Elliott may not have made the desired impact, sources suggest that relations between Villans and the Reds remain strong, potentially giving the Midlands side an advantage in the negotiations.

Additionally, Unai Emery’s men are on course to qualify for the Champions League, thus making them a more attractive destination than the Lilywhites for the midfielder.
