PSG have a new No. 1 goalkeeper as the club announced the arrival of Lucas Chevalier. The Frenchman comes over from LOSC Lille and will replace Gianluigi Donnarumma. Moreover, one football expert raves over the player and spotlights one key trait.

The Parisians beat out Premier League clubs for this signing. Over the summer, the Lille standout was linked to Aston Villa and Manchester United at one point.

In June, ESPN reported, citing sources, that Aston Villa reached out to LOSC Lille about a possible move for Chevalier. The report mentioned he was being eyed as a potential replacement for Emiliano Martínez, who is looking to leave the club.

Meanwhile, The Sun previously reported that Manchester United might be interested as well. According to the outlet, they’re watching Chevalier and Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens.

On the latest episode of the Ensemble PSG Podcast, Robin Bairner, chief editor at Football Transfers, revealed the one trait that Chevalier will bring to the French giants, which should result in the two Premier League clubs kicking themselves for not landing him.

“He’s an exciting goalkeeper as far as that position goes, so absolutely an exciting signing,” Bairner said. “I think last season he proved to be a very fine keeper for Lille as well.

“I think if you’re looking in terms of somebody who’s got the character to step up and play at a big team like PSG, you’re looking at somebody like Chevalier because he is renowned for being a big character. Of course, that’s important as a goalkeeper, but it’s particularly important if you’re stepping up and moving to a club like PSG.”
