Tottenham Hotspur are rumoured to be eyeing a sensational move for a Premier League centre-back, but it may be near impossible for now.
It has been widely reported that signing a top-class defender is a priority for Spurs in January, and that is understandable, given the fitness record of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
At the start of the summer window, it was revealed that Tottenham were preparing an approach for Jarrad Branthwaite, but the 23-year-old ended up staying put at Everton and even penned a five-year deal at the club.
This has reportedly not deterred Thomas Frank’s men, with some sources claiming that Spurs and Man United are both eyeing a move for Branthwaite in January, and we have now found out what Everton are thinking about the centre-back’s future.
Everton will take a hardline stance on Tottenham target Jarrad Branthwaite
Football Insider have now alleged that the Toffees will not entertain any offers for the England international during the upcoming transfer window.
Curiously, the report does not mention Tottenham Hotspur as one of the contenders for the defender’s signature, instead naming Liverpool and Man United as the two clubs that are keen on signing the youngster.
However, the possibility of David Moyes’ side selling Branthwaite mid-season has been completely ruled out.
With the centre-back’s current deal running until 2030, Everton are planning to reject all offers that come their way for the centre-back, no matter how big.
Will Branthwaite be on the market next summer?
Tottenham and the defender’s other suitors will also find it difficult to do a deal next summer, as Football Insider say that Everton plan to continue on their firm stance on Branthwaite at the end of the season.
The Toffees want to keep the former Carlisle United man for as long as possible as they are at the start of a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The Merseyside club hope to push up the Premier League table and are hopeful that Branthwaite will be at the heart of their defence for many years to come.
