Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany has continued to heap praise on Luis Diaz after Steven Gerrard urged Liverpool to bring the winger back to Anfield.

The former Porto forward departed Merseyside last summer. Since then, he has flourished in the Bundesliga. Diaz, 29, has netted 23 goals and provided a further 18 assists during what has been an outstanding first season at the Allianz Arena.

Kompany has understandably been effusive in his admiration and commended the club's recruitment team for securing his services. Following the midweek Champions League victory against Real Madrid, the ex-Manchester City defender commented: "Lucho brings a lot to the team.

"He can dribble, create chances, and finish. But what makes him special is his mentality; he's not afraid of chaos and becomes a threat in those situations.

"He brings a lot of energy to the team. You can only congratulate the club on signing such a player. He's a great player for Bayern Munich."

Kompany's admiration for Diaz follows former Liverpool midfielder Gerrard's suggestion that the winger — alongside Bayern Munich colleague Michael Olise — would be perfect candidates to replace the departing Mohamed Salah at Anfield.

"All day long," he replied when asked on TNT Sports if he like to see Olise at Liverpool.

"But the problem is, why would he leave Bayern Munich? Big club, they're challenging for the big honors, probably the strongest Bayern Munich team we've seen for a while.

"He's about to take the World Cup by storm come the summer, he looks like a really happy kid, settled... I don't think he's going anywhere. But yes, I would love him at Liverpool, and you know what?

"I wouldn't mind Diaz back as well."

Ex-Crystal Palace winger Olise is also enjoying a remarkable season in Bavaria.

The France international has registered an impressive tally of 16 goals and 29 assists across all competitions this term.

Both Diaz and Olise are tied down to deals running through until 2029. Liverpool faces a challenging summer assignment as it looks to find a successor for Salah, who is expected to leave despite having 12 months left on his Anfield deal.

He is set to be accompanied through the Liverpool exit door by defender Andy Robertson, who has likewise confirmed his departure when his own contract expires.
