Ben Davies has now opened up on his favourite Heung-min Son memory at Tottenham Hotspur and has spoken about the South Korean sealing his legendary status at the club by lifting the Europa League.
No player at Spurs, either past or present, is as close to Son as the Welshman, who has been with the South Korean throughout his decade-long journey at Tottenham.
In fact, Heung-min Son is the godfather to Davies’ son, which shows just how close the pair are off the field.
Several of Son’s former teammates have paid emotional tributes to him after the 33-year-old announced his plans to leave Tottenham, and the former Swansea man has now revealed what his favourite memory is of the South Korean in a Spurs shirt.
Ben Davies reveals his most memorable Heung-min Son moment
Son has given Spurs fans plenty of great moments over the years, and it is thus very difficult to choose just one.
However, Davies confessed that he remembers the forward scoring his 100th Premier League goal against Brighton in 2023 very fondly, with the South Korean becoming just the 33rd player to join the 100 club, and first from Asia to do it.
When asked about his favourite Son memory, the Welshman told Football.London: “Me and him are really good friends so we’ve had a lot of times together, so most of my memories do seem to probably fall off the pitch, but I think it’s probably when he got his 100th goal in the Premier League.
“That was a big moment for him and something that he’d been striving for for a long time. And I remember after he got that, we had a little celebratory dinner at my house with just a few of his mates and stuff. It was really nice to see someone put so much effort into getting that.”
Davies opens up on seeing Son lift the Europa League trophy
While Son would have been considered a legend by Tottenham fans even if he had not won a trophy, the forward ensured that his legacy cannot be questioned after lifting the Europa League trophy in Bilbao.
The 33-year-old now walks away as a European champion, and Davies confessed that he was very proud to see the forward hoisting the trophy in Sam Mames.
When asked about Son finally getting the trophy he deserved, the defender said: “I was very proud, very proud. Like I said, he’s put so much effort in and probably is one of the people that it takes a toll on the most when he’s so focused on success and such a talented player as well.
“Probably in his career, he would have deserved to have won more, but I can probably imagine he felt pretty similar to me. It was probably a big sense of relief for him to get that over the line, and it was something that he really deserved. I was very, very happy for him.”
