Manchester City lost 2-0 at Manchester United on Saturday lunchtime to lose ground in the Premier League title race to Arsenal

Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva has promised the Blues will fight until the end in the Premier League title race despite the gap to Arsenal growing to seven points following defeat to Manchester United. City were not at the races in the derby but went into the break level after Amad and Bruno Fernandes' goals were ruled out for offside.

In the second half, Pep Guardiola made changes but the pressure on the City defence finally told. Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring for United following a quick break from a free kick. Just 11 minutes later it was 2-0 as Rico Lewis switched off at the back post and Patrick Dorgu stole in to score.

City thought they had conceded a third in stoppage time but VAR ruled out Mason Mount's goal after Matheus Cunha was offside in the build-up. The defeat was a blow for City's title aspirations with Arsenal continuing their consistency at the top of the table.

However, Bernardo insists his team will keep battling to turn around the deficit. "It is a big gap, we won't lie and say it isn't a big gap, it is," the captain said. "We will fight until the end."

On the result, the midfielder added: "They deserved to win today. They had more energy and intention. It always felt like they were close to score and we were never there. We gave them what they want. They took the game to where they are good and we are not so good.

"Since I arrived here in England we have always been a very controlled team. There was a lot of things missing from us. Definitely a bad day for us.

"After a day like today, I don’t think we have any excuses. It was a really bad performance from us."

While the derby defeat will sting for some time to come, the bigger picture of the title race shall be the focus for the Blues. On Saturday evening, Arsenal dropped points at Nottingham Forest after a goalless draw at the City Ground.

This means the gap at the top of the Premier League is now seven points. City still have to face Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium before the end of the season and will fancy themselves to still catch the Gunners while it is still mathematically possible.

Next up for City is a trip to Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.
