Over the last few weeks, Tottenham fans and the larger footballing ecosystem have been coming to terms with what relegation from the Premier League would mean for a club of the Lilywhites’ size.

Tottenham fans could watch matches on ‘Premflix’ streaming platform in the future

The Times have revealed that the Premier League is set to launch its own streaming platform in Singapore starting from next season.

Fans in Singapore can watch all matches and other content directly on ‘Premier League +’, rather than going through a broadcaster.

The report says that if it proves successful, it could be replicated in other countries around the world.

According to analysts, this model of directly streaming matches to the fans rather than selling the rights to the broadcaster could see a significant rise in international broadcast revenue for the Premier League.

Richard Masters confirms the Premier League + could be extended

Richard Masters has explained that the Premier League are keen to create a direct-to-consumer service so that it can have autonomy on things like pricing and promotions.

He also revealed that the attempt in Singapore is a trial run before it can be replicated in other markets around the world.

Masters said (via The Times): “We have created a direct-to-consumer service from next season onwards — Premier League + rather than Premflix — and for the first time, the Premier League is going to have its own customers and deal with promotions, pricing, churn, distribution.

“We are looking to build a business, but also looking to learn how that might be replicated all around the world. This is a new app you can download and have on your smart TVs, your laptops, and watch 380 matches and loads of shoulder content, 24-7 channel service, and it’s going to be an exciting product.”
