BREAKING: Arne Slot gives Alexander Isak injury return prediction with 'big disappointment' claim

1 hour ago 2

Arne Slot has given an update on Alexander Isak after Liverpool confirmed the striker has had to undergo surgery on a broken leg.

Isak went under the knife on Monday after suffering the injury during Saturday's win over Tottenham. The 26-year-old was forced off after Micky van de Ven connected with a strong challenge in the process of him scoring the opener in the Reds' 2-1 victory.

It has now been confirmed that Isak suffered a fractured fibula and ankle injury in the challenge. No timeframe has been given for his recovery, but he will no doubt face a long lay-off now.

"It's going to be a long injury, for a couple of months," Slot said. "That's a big, big disappointment for him, and as a result of that, also for us."

Slot was also asked whether Isak's injury would impact his plans for the January transfer window, although the Liverpool boss batted away suggestions that he may need to dip into the market again.

"I think my first and only thoughts are on the upcoming two games. Two difficult ones again, two home games, that's really nice, so I think it's a time for the players we do have available to do what they've done so many times - to roll their sleeves up, and not only our players but our fans as well, to help us in the best possible way to get the results we want in the upcoming two games."
