Premier League CEO Richard Masters has given a simple answer to a question about the ongoing legal battle with Manchester City.

They were charged for allegedly breaching Financial Fair Play rules over a nine year period from 2009 to 2018, while also accused of failing to comply with the Premier League's investigation.

The Premier League charged City with 115 charges in 2023, though it's believed that figure is closer to 130. City have strongly denied any wrongdoing throughout the entire ordeal, having won three Premier League titles during that period.

A three-person independent panel were part of a 12-week hearing, from September 16 to December 6 2024, at the International Dispute Resolution Centre in London and both sides are still awaiting answers.

Speaking at the Business of Football summit, Masters said: "We're still awaiting a decision. As you know, I can't talk about it; I can't talk about the timing of it. So, there's nothing more I can add."

There was always going to be a long wait for a resolution, with Pep Guardiola claiming in February 2025 the club were expecting an outcome in 'one month.'

At the end of July last year, Masters told NBC: "You can ask but our rules are very clear, it's a confidential process so I can't give any information on timing or anything like that. I can't add anything on that."

There has been plenty of debate regarding potential punishments for City, if they are found guilty of breaching the rules, with the panel able to adminster a punishment they see fit.

As per the Premier League rules, thet could sanction a points deduction, a fine or even expulsion from the top-flight. There is no set sanction for financial breaches and the scale of the alleged charges is unprecedented.

Once a judgement has eventually been made, both parties will also be able to appeal the outcome within 14 days, which would result in a new three-person commission being selected.

The members will be chosen by Murray Rosen KC, the chair of the Premier League's judicial panel, and the process could delay the outcome futher, but the outcome of that would be final.

In August 2024, Guardiola said: "I wish from deep in my heart to go to the trial, the independent panel - and I say it again, independent panel - and as soon as possible (they) release what happened, and we will accept like always we have done."

Man City fans are still waiting.
