Johnny Kenny is adamant that a personal double is on the cards for him this season, in the form of a Celtic Premiership winners' medal and promotion with Bolton.

The Irishman departed Parkhead in January to link up with the Trotters after first-team opportunities in Glasgow appeared to be dwindling, despite having enjoyed a run in the side under former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers and subsequently Martin O'Neill.

Kenny has now found the net in each of his last four outings for the Trotters, who have secured a place in the League One promotion playoffs. The former Sligo Rovers forward is confident his parent club possesses the quality to edge a tense three-way battle with Hearts and Rangers for the title, pointing to the wealth of experience within the squad.

Kenny said: "I fully believe Celtic have the winners in the dressing room and have the winners in the dug-out. But I don't want to look too far ahead. I'd love to get promoted here and win up there for a perfect season.

"For now, I just want to score goals and get this club back to the Championship and then hopefully in the summer go back in with a burning desire to pick up where I left off."

Kenny also expressed no regrets about how his season has unfolded across both clubs. He admitted: "At the end of August, when we signed a striker on deadline day, I thought I was going to struggle for minutes, but I got opportunities and I've done pretty well.

"I've scored goals for Celtic, I've scored in a Glasgow derby. I played a lot, started a lot of games, and then just two or three games of not being clinical, ruthless in front of goals, it changed, and I came down here to Bolton, and I think I started life pretty well.

"I'm thoroughly enjoying the challenge, and it's time to step up. We need to put the work in, so we get to the opportunity of the playoffs, and then in a playoff, I'd fancy ourselves against anyone.

"That was my desire. I wasn't coming down here just to relax. I just wanted to come here to work and to apply my trade the best way possible because I know if I do that, we can get the results we want.

"It's been a whirlwind, but I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

"It's probably one of the weirdest seasons of my career, but I would say, one of the best for the learnings and the experiences.

"At Celtic, Brendan Rodgers took me in and treated me like I was one of his own.

"He gave me my opportunity away at Ross County when it was -8 degrees up in the north of Scotland to make my debut with 20 minutes to go when we were 1-1. I came on, got an assist, and we won 4-1, and he bedded me in from there.

"I have a Scottish Premiership medal, and not everyone can say that, and Brendan gave me so many opportunities through the summer. He rewarded me with a new long-term contract, and I'll be forever in debt to him."
