Brentford star outlines Champions League ambitions as Bees prepare for crunch clash

The Bees have had a storming season under Keith Andrews - and defender Sepp Van Den Berg is not content with just a spot in the Conference League

Sepp Van Den Berg is not just aiming to take Brentford into Europe for the first time – he wants to do it by qualifying for the Champions League.

Brentford currently sit seventh, which would be good enough for a spot in the UEFA Conference League and a first ever season in Europe for the club.

The top five will qualify for the Champions League, and Van den Berg believes the Bees should be aiming as high as possible.

He said: "We have to aim high. When you are in this position you have aim high and not settle for anything better than the Champions League.

"Hopefully if results go well, like Villa win the Europa League then there will be extra places available."

Brentford go into Saturday's crunch clash with Fulham unbeaten in five games but without a win in their last four. They were pegged back late on against Everton last weekend, and Van den Berg was disappointed to come away the game with just a point.

He added: "Second half we played really well. It could have been 3-1 but when you concede a late goal like this it feels very disappointing.

"If we had won we would have opened up a gap between us and Everton but one point is better than zero."
