A rising Canadian soccer star will reportedly set a record for a women's transfer fee of one million Pound Sterling, or $1.85 Canadian dollars.

The Guardian news agency in the U.K. reports that 20-year-old Olivia Smith, a member of Canada's national women's team, will move from Liverpool to Arsenal of the Super Women's League for the record sum. Arsenal won the league championship in May.

CBC Sports has not independently confirmed the report.

The fee surpasses the previous high of $1.67 million Chelsea paid for American Naomi Girma in January.

Smith, a forward, joined Liverpool a year ago from Sporting Lisbon of the Portuguese league, scoring seven goals in 20 games.

In 2019, the Toronto-born Smith became the youngest player to play for Canada's women's senior team when she made her debut at age 15 years, 94 days.
