Champions League player's father claims his son could sign for Liverpool this summer

Liverpool was linked with a last-minute move for Roland Sallai in January when it explored a deal for Lutsharel Geertruida, with his father claiming contact was made

Liverpool has already snapped up the French defender Jeremy Jacquet ahead of the summer, but there will be more work for Arne Slot's side to complete come the next window.

In addition to signing a center-back, there are other positions that need addressing, with contract talks also required to tie down some key men. Depending on how those negotiations go, some more transfers may be required to fill the gaps.

In the winter window, Liverpool tried to do a late deal for Lutsharel Geertruida, who would have signed on loan. However, that proved impossible and was always a complex situation to work through, given he was on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig.

Another player linked with a move at the time was Roland Sallai, the Galatasaray winger who can also fill in at right-back. And his father has now claimed that something could now happen in the summer instead.

Tibor Sallai is expecting his son to move when the season ends, though the 28-year-old is not the age profile that Liverpool tends to target as a long-term solution.

"Liverpool could be such a destination, and I admit, I wouldn't be surprised if this club change happened now, in the winter," Tibor Sallai told Blikk.

"I know that contact has already been made through a management office. I don't want to shout anything, but my son will really have a good chance in the summer, if there is an offer that is also beneficial for Galatasaray, to change country and level.

"It wouldn't be just any moment if Liverpool were to run out onto the Anfield Road turf with three Hungarians in the starting line-up."

The Reds, of course, already have Sallai's international teammates, Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez. The former has filled in at right-back at times but Jeremie Frimpong may not be too far away from a return from injury.

Szoboszlai played a big part in the winner scored by Alexis Mac Allister last weekend, late on at Nottingham Forest.

"I think there you can see how much confidence he has at the moment and how well he has played this season, because it's the last second of the game — at least I thought it was the last second of the game," Arne Slot said.

"Apparently, it was a bit longer to go because after we scored we still played for one more minute. But it felt to me when I looked at the time that it was the last moment and to stay so cool in a moment where everyone, all the fans, were expecting the ball to come in and he was waiting, waiting, and in the end he brought it in.

"Well done by Virgil [van Dijk] as well, to change the angle of attack to go to the second post. And Macca was not a surprise to me that he was both times our goalscorer because he played with the mentality you need to play in these games and that's why he was twice in that situation to finish.

"The first half was really poor, the worst we've played until now I think, but the second half was much better, controlled the game much more, had our chances already earlier in the second half. And in the first half, although we were really poor, we did not concede a lot and we defended really well in our box."
