Chelsea debate eight-player decision in summer transfer window after £164m spend

A look ahead to the upcoming summer transfer window with Chelsea expected to be one of the Premier League's busiest clubs

It could once again be a summer of change at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are prepared to back head coach Liam Rosenior in his first summer transfer window, as the club's sporting leadership team look to hand the 41-year-old the necessary tools to ensure the Blues are able to compete on all fronts next season.

While Chelsea are set to sign multiple players in the gap between the two seasons, there are also expected to be several leaving SW6. When the summer comes around, Rosenior, in collaboration with the club's sporting directors, would have had ample time to assess the areas of the squad that need addressing, and also some of the players that do not have a future in west London.

There are some question marks over Filip Jorgensen, for example, following his costly mistake in the recent defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Not only that but Jorgensen has failed to impress since signing for the club in the summer of 2024 and with Robert Sanchez the No.1 goalkeeper, the Dane could look to leave at the end of the season, especially when you bear in mind Mike Penders potentially being part of the first-team picture next term.

Tosin Adarabioyo has been a bit-part figure in the Chelsea squad this summer and with two years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, the defender could leave at the end of the season. Benoit Badiashile, too, could be out of the door. Signed in January 2023, the Frenchman has struggled with injuries throughout his time in SW6 and even when he has been fit, he has failed to show the kind of consistency Chelsea are after in the centre of defence.

It is no secret that the Blues are looking to add a starting-level centre-back this summer and that could spell the end for a few of the current crop. Axel Disasi, who is on loan at West Ham United, is also expected to depart Stamford Bridge for good when the summer is here.

It will be interesting to see what Chelsea do in regards to the left wing position. It feels unfair to judge Jamie Gittens too much this season given his injury troubles, while Alejandro Garnacho has shown glimpses of his talent despite frustrating supporters at times. One of them, though, could be moved on if the Blues decide to bring a left-sided wide man to the club.

Tyrique George could move to Everton on a permanent deal. There is an option in his loan deal at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to make his contract permanent for just north of £20million. Whether the Toffees take that option up is another matter but George will not be short of potential suitors either way.

Liam Delap has struggled in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge and it will be fascinating to see whether Chelsea decide to move the 23-year-old striker on, or give him another season to prove himself. Emanuel Emegha is set to arrive from Strasbourg to try and compete with Joao Pedro for the No.9 spot.

Nicolas Jackson could leave the club on a permanent basis, although a move to Bayern Munich is highly unlikely. There will be plenty of clubs looking at Jackson when he does return to Chelsea.

David Datro Fofana will surely be sold. The Ivorian is not part of Chelsea's plans going forward and is currently on loan at Strasbourg.

Jorgensen, Tosin, Badiashile, Disasi, Delap, Jackson, George and Datro Fofana cost Chelsea a combined £164million but the Blues could be forced to sell some of them for far lower than what they purchased them for.
