Chelsea discover Kobbie Mainoo transfer stance as Man Utd make feelings clear

Chelsea have previously been linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo

Manchester United have reportedly made it clear that only an exceptional offer would tempt them into selling Kobbie Mainoo amid ongoing transfer speculation linking him with Chelsea.

The transfer window is on the verge of opening, with the Blues already being linked with several potential new signings.

A move to Stamford Bridge has been mentioned on the rumour mill for Mainoo in recent months, particularly with the midfielder not receiving regular game time at United this season.

Mainoo was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea during the summer window, but a deal was never close to getting completed despite the speculation.

Former Blues boss Antonio Conte is also said to be keen on a move for the England international in the January transfer window.

Sky Sports has reported that United do not want to part ways with Mainoo and would only consider letting the England international leave on a permanent basis in January, rather than on loan.

It has been claimed that only an "exceptional offer" would be able to tempt United into selling Mainoo in January.

Reports in recent months have claimed that a loan deal could be on the cards for Mainoo in the New Year, but the latest article suggests that it will not be on the cards for United in January.

Chelsea had a busy summer transfer window but added just one new midfielder to their ranks with Dario Essugo arriving from Sporting Lisbon.

Essugo has spent much of the campaign on the sidelines with injury, and it remains to be seen if the Blues will go into the market for another midfielder in the New Year.

Mainoo has struggled for regular game time at United this season, having not been included in the starting line-up in a single Premier League match for the Red Devils.

The 20-year-old has made 11 cameo appearances from the substitute's bench, most recently in the 4-4 draw with Wolves in the Monday Night Football, which led to Mainoo receiving a warm reception from the Old Trafford crowd.

"It's the situation, what's happened," the United manager, Ruben Amorim, said ahead of Monday evening's clash with Bournemouth. "I don't know what is going to be the future [for Mainoo]. Let's see after this match.

"[Harry] Amass is now struggling in the Championship. Chido [Obi] is not always a starter in under 21s. All these guys played when a lot of people were saying sack the manager!"
