UEFA have released images from semi-automated offside technology confirming Marc Cucurella was onside when he assisted Chelsea's opening goal against Barcelona

UEFA have released a snapshot from the semi-automated offsides to demonstrate that Marc Cucurella was onside as he set up Chelsea's first goal against Barcelona.

The Spaniard collected a through ball after taking a corner and appeared suspiciously offside before delivering a ball into the box. It was directed towards the goal by Pedro Neto before Jules Kounde got the final touch, with the evening's opening goal being recorded as an own goal against the Catalan star.

Replays seemed to depict Cucurella as clearly offside, but a different perspective has shown him to be just level with the last defender

Chelsea were deserving of their lead, which they maintained until half-time. Barcelona, who reached the Champions League semi-finals last season, found it difficult to trouble the Premier League team.

Before the interval, the Spanish side also found themselves reduced to ten men. Barcelona captain Ronald Araujo was sent off after receiving two yellow cards

The Blues had already had two goals disallowed by the officials. The first was due to a handball in the build-up, and the offside flag was raised against Enzo Fernandez when the match was still goalless.

Enzo Maresca's side completely dominated the first 45 minutes with Robert Lewandowksi and Lamine Yamal kept quiet. Despite that, Maresca's was full of praise for Barcelona in his Monday press conference.

He said: "I think they're spectacular, it's a team that whenever I look at it there are things that can be learned, things that can be looked at

"How they attack, how they defend, which in the end has given them the chance to win La Liga last year, to get to the Champions League semi-final.

"They do a lot of things very well and it's a team that always wants initiative, always wants value and we try to do the same on our side."

He did however, make it clear that Chelsea would go after a potential weakness of Barcelona which was their high line.

"Yeah the high line is a factor for sure, but as you said I think we need to pay attention also off the ball, because the idea that they create all the chances, they score goals always, so we need the right balance between attacking and defending."

Pedro Neto starting up front showed that clearly as he was able to cause plenty of problems before making an impact in the final third.

Chelsea have had a varied European campaign so far, winning both their home matches but failing to impress away. They suffered a defeat at Bayern Munich and had to rally to secure a draw with Qarabag in their previous match.
