Chelsea given £60m transfer vindication as Liam Rosenior verdict speaks volumes

Joao Pedro has been in fine form recently for Chelsea with the Brazilian forward scoring more than anyone in a Blues shirt since Liam Rosenior took charge last month

Liam Rosenior believes Joao Pedro can become "one of the best strikers in world football" if the Chelsea forward continues the trajectory he is on at the moment.

Since Rosenior was appointed Blues head coach on January 6, his side have won eight of their 11 matches in all competitions and nobody in a Chelsea shirt has scored more than the Brazil international in that time.

Joao Pedro has scored six goals and provided one assist - as well as winning three penalties - for Rosenior, with the £60million summer signing coming into his own after a mixed start to the campaign for Chelsea.

Rosenior has tipped the 24-year-old to become one of the best in the world in the No.9 role if he is able to continue the impressive work if he manages to maintain such a level.

"I think every player works on being the best player they can be regardless of the role that they're asked to carry out," said Rosenior. "For Joao, he's had real rhythm. I've asked him to do different things and he's taken it on board and he's put it into practice.

"He's been outstanding. The true test for Joao now is that the exciting thing for him is if he can maintain this level of intensity, if he can maintain this level of quality, and the quality's never been in doubt, he could be one of the best strikers in world football.

"I truly believe that, but it's a possibility at the moment - if he maintains that level."

Joao Pedro is set to lead the line for Chelsea as they take on Burnley on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League. The Blues just need to avoid defeat against the struggling Clarets in order to climb back into the top four, with Manchester United in action on Monday night.

Chelsea have the chance to put some pressure on United, as well as Liverpool, who go away to Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon. Rosenior, though, is expecting a tough challenge against Scott Parker's Burnley side.

When asked if playing first is an advantage, the Chelsea head coach replied: "It's February. There's plenty of time. I swear, I've not even considered what time we're playing.

"We need to win our game. It's as simple as that. We need to do our job. It's not going to be simple.

"Burnley went away to Crystal Palace and won. We watched Wolves [vs Arsenal]. This is a strong league. We watched Wolves in their performance. We have to take care of our business regardless of what time we play."

Rosenior will be without Marc Cucurella due to a hamstring injury but both Cole Palmer and Reece James are expected to play on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.
