Chelsea handed expert verdict on controversial Joao Pedro incident during Wolves win

Joao Pedro won two penalties for Chelsea as the Blues continued their impressive recent form with a 3-1 victory against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday afternoon

Former Premier League referee Keith Hackett believes Jarred Gillett was "spot on" for deciding to award Chelsea their second penalty in the Blues' win over Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Joao Pedro won two spot kicks for the west Londoners at Molineux, after fouls from Matt Doherty and Yerson Mosquera in the first-half. Doherty tripped the Brazilian early on in the West Midlands and there did not seem to be too much controversy around Gillett pointing to the spot.

The second one, however, caused a bit more controversy. Mosquera clearly pushed Joao Pedro in the back but plenty had claimed the decision to award Chelsea another penalty was soft. Hackett, though, believes it was the correct call.

"At last a referee who recognises and has the courage to make the correct decision," Hackett said to Football Insider. "This was a clear push, and referee Jarred Gillett, who delivered yet another top-class performance, was spot on."

Cole Palmer converted both penalties for Chelsea as he completed a first-half hat-trick at Molineux. The 23-year-old has not been in the best form in recent weeks but Liam Rosenior has not once doubted him: "He is already there [at a really good level]. He is already there. He doesn't need to change.

"When he is fully, fearfully firing, feeling good; he's a magnificent footballer. But when you're at a club like, at this club, with the huge demands and scrutiny, which I am starting to learn myself. You have to block out the noise and you have to remember what a good player you are.

"I love working with him. He loves being here, and hopefully, now we can really enjoy his football between now and the end of the season because it will help us on the pitch."
