Chelsea were awarded a penalty against Bournemouth after a VAR check which was later scored by Cole Palmer.
The Blues fell behind to a scrappy David Brooks goal after just a few minutes, but were handed the chance to equalise moments later. Chelsea's spot-kick, which was converted by Cole Palmer, was awarded after a clumsy challenge in the box by Manchester City-bound Antoine Semenyo on Estevao.
And the Premier League Match Centre on X have now explained why a change to the original decision was made. Their post read: "#CHEBOU – 11’ VAR OVERTURN After VAR review, the referee overturned the original decision of no penalty to Chelsea.
Announcing the decision, referee Sam Barrott said: “After review, red 24 trips blue 41 inside the penalty area. My final decision will be penalty kick.”
Reacting on Sky Sports News to the penalty award, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson said: "Sam Barrott has now gone to have a look at the monitor. Craig Pawson is in VAR he is going to have said to him 'you need to go and have a look at this'.

"And he is going to be clear. We have seen it, me and Mike (Dean) both agree... because Estevao does so well to go past Truffert and he gets in front of Semenyo and his knee, shin sort of just catches the back of him.
"Once he gets into the box Semenyo has to be so careful.
"He just catches the back of his calf, makes his feet go together.
"We got to the right outcome, it was a penalty. Maybe we could have got to it a bit quicker."
Chelsea then went on to take the lead moments later through Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine was also involved in the buildup as he worked the ball out to Alejandro Garnacho, got it back, and then a nice touch gave him a bit of space before he sent the ball into the roof of the net.
But Bournemouth fought back. Semenyo's long throw was headed on by a Chelsea player and Justin Kluivert was there at the back post to stab in for 2-2.
