Chelsea's hierarchy has held an emergency meeting regarding Enzo Maresca's future at the club, with a decision imminent.

The Blues have won just one of their last seven Premier League games and are now 15 points behind Arsenal and just five points above 14th-placed Brighton.

Chelsea drew 2-2 with Bournemouth prior to the New Year, and Maresca did not take charge of his post-match media duties after falling ill.

The Italian was the top-flight manager of the month for November, but his future was cast into doubt after Chelsea's win over Everton on December 13th, aiming a thinly veiled dig at the club hierarchy.

He claimed the 48 hours leading up to the game were "the worst since I joined the club, because many people didn’t support us."

Maresca is reportedly one of the front-runners to replace Pep Guardiola at Man City if the Spaniard opts to leave the Etihad Stadium, though he would not be the only candidate.

Chelsea chiefs have met to discuss Maresca's future at the club, with football.london understanding that results need to improve if he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge, prior to said meeting.

However, since then, reports have surfaced claiming a two-week breakdown in communication between the Blues boss and those above him mean Maresca is considering leaving the club.

A decision on his future is expected soon, with Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior among the front runners to take over at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's most recent game saw them held to a 2-2 by Bournemouth and Maresca did not take charge of his post-match press conference, with Willy Caballero stepping in.

He said: "Enzo [Maresca] isn't feeling well. He didn't feel well the last two days but still made training and made the game today.

"I took his position just to clarify that he isn't feeling well enough to do the rest of the stuff that the manager has to do, so I'm here instead."
