The very latest on the fitness of Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia with the 22-year-old nearing his return from a three-and-a-half month absence because of injury

Romeo Lavia is set to feature for Chelsea's Under-21s side on Friday afternoon as the midfielder prepares for his first competitive minutes since November.

The 22-year-old midfielder went off early in the Blues' draw with Qarabag on November 5 after injuring his quadriceps and has been out ever since. Chelsea are hopeful Lavia will be in the squad for next weekend's trip to Arsenal in the Premier League as he nears his return following a three-and-a-half month layoff.

Since moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2023 for £58million, Lavia's time on the pitch has been significantly impacted by constant injury problems. The Belgian midfielder has only made a total of 30 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions despite being at the club for two-and-a-half years.

The midfielder has been undergoing a modified rehabilitation programme to recover from his latest injury, with Chelsea hopeful once he returns to the pitch, he can be available for the long term. The former Manchester City midfielder has trained in some capacity with the first team for the last two weeks.

Lavia is set for some minutes on Friday afternoon as Chelsea U21s take on Leeds United at the west London club's training base in Cobham. Liam Rosenior will be keeping a keen eye on how his midfielder comes through the game with the hope he can return for next weekend's trip to the Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea have seven fixtures in March and Rosenior is hoping he will have Lavia to call upon as we approach the business end of the season.
