Chelsea make Alexander Isak transfer decision amid Liverpool interest and huge Newcastle update

2 weeks ago 46

Alexander Isak has been one of the most discussed potential transfers this year in the build up to the summer transfer window.

The Newcastle striker has been in fine form since moving to St. James' Park back in 2022, with a number of Premier League clubs and others farther afield known to be interested in a deal for the 25-year-old.

football.london understands that while Arsenal have been interested in a deal for the Swedish star, their move for his international teammate Viktor Gyokeres this summer is likely to end any possible interest in Isak.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are also keen on a deal. While they have already signed Hugo Ekitike this summer for around £80million, that does not necessarily rule the Reds out of a move for Isak before the transfer window closes on September 1st.

Chelsea are another club who have been linked with Isak. The west London side have been busy this summer, adding the likes of Joao Pedro, Liam Delap and Jamie Gittens to their attacking line, while Brazilian wonderkid Estevao Willian will also finally join after a deal was agreed for his signature back in 2024. Talks are also progressing over a deal for RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons, in addition to a move for Ajax defender Jorrel Hato.

However, football.london understands that the Blues will not be making a move to bring Isak to Stamford Bridge this summer. Chelsea are currently happy with the quality of strikers in their ranks, with the addition of Delap set to provide competition for Nicolas Jackson in the starting XI this season.

In addition, Joao Pedro is another option to fill the role, though youngster Marc Guiu is expected to leave on loan this summer.

The arrivals of Joao Pedro and Delap in particular have raised questions over Jackson's future at the club. Manchester United in particular have been linked with a move for 24-year-old in recent weeks, but football.london understand that the Blues are likely to price any suitors out of a move this summer.

Jackson is not currently for sale, and the Blues believe he has the potential to become a £100million striker, valuing him as such. However, like anyone he is not untouchable - though it seems unlikely any club will meet Chelsea's high valuation of the former Villarreal man this summer.

Chelsea may well be stretched more this season than last year, with the Conference League offering the chance to rest and rotate players more readily in the 2024/25 season. However, the Blues are confident that manager Enzo Maresca will be able to manage the load effectively for his side despite the increased level of competition following their qualification for the Champions League.
