Chelsea's owners, BlueCo, have made another addition to their European sister club Strasbourg in former Brighton technical director David Weir, who has been quick to draw a reaction
Former Brighton and Hove Albion technical director David Weir has been appointed as sporting director at Ligue 1 outfit Strasbourg - marking another raid by Chelsea's ownership on the Seagulls.
The ex-defender becomes the latest member of staff to depart the AMEX Stadium for the Blues' stable, this time joining their sister club. Weir's spell away from the game proved brief following his departure from the South Coast outfit in early September after seven years of service.
The 55-year-old had occupied various positions at the club before progressing to the technical director position under Tony Bloom's ownership.
Nevertheless, he represents the latest prominent switch from Brighton to Chelsea's network. Whilst he will commence his duties at Strasbourg on November 1, he arrives at the club, which is entirely owned by the Blues' ownership group BlueCo.
Weir follows in the footsteps of Graham Potter in making the transition to BlueCo from Brighton, with the former West Ham United manager amongst the more notable exits to Stamford Bridge.
There has been a significant drain of talent from the Seagulls to Chelsea in recent seasons, and this summer saw Facundo Buonanotte follow Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez and Joao Pedro in making the familiar switch.
The response has been divided, though there has been frustration at the latest transfer between the respective clubs. One X user posted: "Utterly embarrassing. Boehly and BlueCo continue to be OBSESSED with Brighton! Strasbourg fans, what are they doing to your club? I'm sorry for you".
Another chimed in: "This is getting funnier and funnier, we have officially become a feeder club to Chelsea and Chelsbourg.
"Do you not feel the slightest amount of shame?" An X user queried.
Weir shared his enthusiasm about working with former Hull City manager Liam Rosenior as they aim to further their progress.
"It is a great honor to join Racing," he said. "A historic club with a strong identity and growing ambition.
"I was convinced by the project and the quality of the people already in place. I am eager to settle in Strasbourg and become fully involved in the life of Racing.
"I look forward to working with Liam (Rosenior) and all the teams to contribute to Racing's success this season and in the years to come."
