CHELSEA 3-0 BARCELONA: The full Blues player ratings from Stamford Bridge after Enzo Maresca's men cruised to a statement victory on Tuesday evening
Chelsea have picked up a crucial three points in the Champions League league phase after a memorable victory over Barcelona at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues thought they got off to the perfect start, with Enzo Fernandez scoring in inside four minutes but Wesley Fofana was adjudged to have hit the ball with his arm in the build up. Fernandez had another goal disallowed later in the first-half with the assistant having his flag up for offside.
Chelsea, though, took a deserved lead on 27 minutes. A short corner routine saw Marc Cucurella drill a low cross in towards Pedro Neto, whose flick was turned into his own net by Jules Kounde.
Just before half-time, Barca's job got even more difficult. Ronaldo Araujo was shown a second yellow card for a clumsy challenge on Cucurella and was ordered to walk down the tunnel.
There was another disallowed goal for Chelsea just after the break. Andrey Santos, with one of his first touches after coming off the bench, finished from inside the box but Alejandro Garnacho strayed offside.
It was 2-0 not long after, though, with Estevao Willian sending Stamford Bridge into raptures with a beautiful solo goal. The 18-year-old Brazilian beat Pau Cubarsi with ease before smashing the ball into the roof of the net in front of the Shed End.
The rest of the second-half was fairly routine for Chelsea, who outclassed Barcelona on the night, and they even had time to add a third. Liam Delap, on as a substitute, finished well after Fernandez laid the ball off to the striker.
Below, Bobby Vincent rates the performances from Chelsea's XI based on their performance this evening:
Robert Sanchez - 6
Sanchez, unbelievably, didn't have too much to do at Stamford Bridge. Comfortable evening for the goalkeeper.
Malo Gusto - 6
Brilliant recovery challenge on Fermin Lopez on 38 minutes that got him a nice ovation in west London. Tireless running, as ever, from Gusto. Off at half-time. Picked up a slight knock in the first-half and was on a yellow.
Wesley Fofana - 7
His recovery pace helped Chelsea on a couple of occasions. Moved the ball well. Looking better and better with every game that passes.
Trevoh Chalobah - 7
Set the tone early with an aggressive tackle on Robert Lewandowski. The Barca striker kept dropping deep to get on the ball and Chalobah could not get ahead of him all the time, but there were always going to be times when that happened.
Marc Cucurella - 9
Cucurella did really well for the opening goal of the game. The former Barca left-back linked up with Estevao Willian before drilling a cross towards Neto.
His defensive ability was on display, too, at Stamford Bridge. On 35 minutes, Cucurella stuck to his defensive task and prevented a good chance from his international teammate Lamine Yamal and won a goal kick. A roar around the stadium followed as if Chelsea had just scored. The fact Yamal was taken off on 80 minutes speaks volumes.
Reece James - 6
Lazy in possession early on to give Barca a golden opportunity that they should have scored. He was lazy on the ball on a couple of occasions. Got better as the game went on in the centre of midfield. Moved to a more conventional right-back role at half-time and did really well to help set up Estevao's goal.
Moises Caicedo - 8
Back in the line-up. His first real action came on 18 minutes, sweeping in on Ferran Torres from behind to scoop the ball away and stop a decent chance. Similar tackles followed throughout the evening. Caicedo loves performing on the biggest stage.
Estevao Willian - 9
Every time he got the ball, he got people off their seats. Should have had an assist but Neto could not guide it on target. Chelsea tried to give the Brazilian the ball at every possible opportunity. And it is no wonder when you see his goal in the second-half. Magic. Superstar.
Enzo Fernandez - 8
Very busy in the midfield. Passing it nicely. Nearly pulled off pass of the night around 20 minutes in, only for it to have a bit too much on it and end up being cleared by Joan Garcia. Unfortunate to have two goals ruled out. Puts it on a plate for Delap.
Alejandro Garnacho - 6
Garnacho struggled to get too involved in the game. When he did, his end product was not quite what it has been in recent appearances.
Pedro Neto - 8
Neto started as the No.9 with Enzo Maresca trying to catch out Barca's high line. He broke it around 25 minutes in and had a golden chance to put the Blues ahead but on his right foot, he shot wildly off target.
Played a big part in the goal. He might be claiming it at his goal, but it will probably go down as a Kounde OG. Not that it matters too much!
Andrey Santos (on for Gusto 46') - 7
On at half-time. Unfortunate with his disallowed goal. Passed it well. Another player who is looking better with each performance.
Liam Delap (on for Garnacho 59') - 8
First goal of the season for Delap. A special moment for Chelsea's new No.9. Finished well to wrap up the scoring for the Blues.
Josh Acheampong (on for James 82') - N/A
Some minutes.
Tyrique George (on for Estevao 82') - N/A
Ran around a lot for the short time he was on.
