Chelsea prepare Xavi Simons transfer next steps after double update as £50m truth emerges

5 hours ago 28

Enzo Maresca has seen a triple Chelsea update emerge that will likely impact their transfer moves. The Blues are fresh off a thumping win over West Ham United even without Cole Palmer after he picked up an injury during the warm-up.

Estevao Willian, who was one of seven players to grab a goal contribution at London Stadium, replaced him in the starting XI but it has still seen a very clear priority emerge. While Chelsea were firing in goals for fun, summer target Xavi Simons was on the receiving end of a heavy defeat as Bayern Munich beat RB Leipzig 6-0.

Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho is also being formally targeted, though a transfer truth could now be clear to Maresca especially as the two parties have very different valuations.

With all of that being said, football.london has provided a fresh perspective on the latest Chelsea transfer topics and rumours.

Double Simons transfer confirmation

Despite having players capable of filling in for Palmer, Chelsea will likely want Simons to join as soon as possible, just in case the former's injury is serious.

Even without his problem, that scenario would have likely occurred with Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg revealing that his move to Chelsea would take place following Leipzig's clash against Bayern. He has also since added that Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku leaving will be required.

football.london says: Palmer's injury, alongside both Chelsea and Leipzig now having free weekends, should absolutely see talks for Simons advance.

Maresca has once again proven his versatility and adding another attacking option to that will make Chelsea even more threatening. Talks have been ongoing for a month and yet it looks as though the Blues will first have to sanction exits before signing Simons.

Thankfully, there is plenty of interest in both Nkunku and Jackson which suggests there will be no major difficulties in getting Simons in and the sooner he does arrive, the better.

Garnacho truth

Chelsea and Man United are advancing in talks for Garnacho, as per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. The Blues are keen to do a deal at £30 million but Ruben Amorim's side appear to be holding out for more.

Having seen the system that was about to be deployed against West Ham before Palmer's injury and the expected arrival of Simons, questions need to be asked if Chelsea actually need Garnacho.

football.london says: While Garnacho only focused on a move to Stamford Bridge is a good thing, spending such a sum acquiring his services may not be worthwhile.

His ability has been evidenced at Old Trafford and at 21-years-old, he has plenty of potential and that could absolutely be realised under Maresca. However, it seems unlikely he would be able to get straight into the starting XI with fellow new arrival Jamie Gittens remaining on the bench even after Palmer got injured.

If Chelsea can agree a deal closer to their valuation, then it may well be worth pursuing but if it does not go through, there should not be too many regrets.
