Chelsea's January transfer window stance perfectly clear as £250m belief laid bare

The January transfer window is nearly upon us and for Chelsea, some supporters are calling for the west Londoners to make some signings over the course of the month

Despite a disastrous December, Chelsea will not panic buy in the upcoming January transfer window, football.london understands.

The Blues ended the month on Tuesday evening with a disappointing 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. It means Chelsea's only win - in the Premier League - in December came against Everton midway through the month, with six points from a possible 18 leaving a sour taste in the mouth of supporters. Many are calling for the club to strengthen in the upcoming January transfer window, but the west Londoners’ stance is unlikely to change anytime soon.

If the right opportunity presents itself, Chelsea will move - as they considered with Antoine Semenyo before quickly pulling out of the deal. Though midway through the season, such opportunities are rare.

Eight senior players came through the Stamford Bridge door in the summer window, costing more than £250million combined and while not all of those signings have worked out at the time of writing, there remains a confidence they will come good for the Blues in time. On the pitch, a hectic January awaits with Chelsea set to play nine matches in all competitions over the course of the month with Enzo Maresca's squad expected to be stretched to the max.

There are a few Chelsea players, though, that could leave the club in the mid-season window. Tyrique George has not made a Premier League squad since the defeat to Sunderland on October 25 and is expected to leave the club on a permanent basis. The 19-year-old forward came close to moving to Fulham in the summer but the west London club were forced to pull out after they failed to offload Harry Wilson.

There are no plans to let Josh Acheampong leave the club despite interest in the 19-year-old defender. Chelsea see Acheampong as a big part of their future with Maresca one of his biggest fans.

Elsewhere, Chelsea will be hoping to find new homes for Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi if possible. Neither player has featured for the Blues this season and are training away from the first team. Disasi was briefly reintegrated into first-team training sessions in the November international break and there was consideration over whether he would slowly become part of the squad again but that has not materialised.
